Bio

Photographer Rolf-Göran Åström lives in Sweden on the island of Styrsö, in the southern archipelago outside Gothenburg. He divides his time between his work as a general practitioner and a part-time commitment as a photographer. He feels that the work as a doctor is connected to his photography in the observation and the existential. From the small things, what happens when people meet, to the big things - life and death.

Rolf-Göran expresses himself both in text and images and has been published in vrious magazines like SvD, ETC, G-P, Ord, Aftonbladet, Dagens Samhälle and Ord och Bild. In the early 2000s was associated with the photo agency Pressens Bild. He has held two exhibitions, participated in a photo festival and published a book.

As a photographer, he has his roots in classic documentary, but his imagery has evolved towards a more personal and poetic narrative style.

Rolf-Göran takes on both shorter assignments and longer personal projects. In his longer projects he often works closely with people and builds relationships over time. He wants to avoid a visual style in terms of contrast, color or colorlessness so that the visuals do not become an obstacle to the story. He strives to control the whole process from photography, imaging, printing, mounting, prepress, text and book design - but sometimes collaborates when the client or the result requires it.
